Scenes

A project's scenes — list with filters and export, create a scene with setting, time of day and requirements, the scene in detail with cast, looks, props, shots and storyboard — and what a change entails.

The scene is the unit you plan with: it lies on a shooting day, at a location, with its roles, looks and props. It is the single source for cast and set — call sheet, stripboard and DOOD read from here. You see the tab with the read right for scenes.

The list

1 Scenes, pages, how much is shot and how many locations. 2 The filters by status. 3 The search by number, title or location. 4 One row per scene.

A scene's status is Not scheduled, Scheduled, Shot or Omitted. The filters at the top show what is being shot today, what comes in the next days and what has no shooting day yet. You also filter by time of day and sort by Scene number, Page length, Location or Status. You download the whole list as a CSV file.

New scene

1 The Scene number, beside it the page length, below it the title. 2 Setting and time of day. 3 The Shooting day, the location above it. 4 The Requirements.

Settingchoice
Interior (INT), Exterior (EXT) or Interior/exterior (INT/EXT).
Time of daychoice
Day, Night, Dawn, Dusk, Morning, Afternoon, Evening or Continuous.
Page lengtheighths
The length in the screenplay, for example 2 3/8 pages. The shooting day uses it to work out how full it is.
Estimated shooting time (min)minutes
Where set, the shooting day calculates with this time instead of the pages.
Story daytext
The day in the story, not the shooting day — "D1", "N3". Scenes with the same story day need the same continuity.
Requirementschoice
Stunts, SFX (practical), VFX (digital), Animals, Minors, Intimacy coordinator, Weapons, Vehicles, Water — what has to be prepared and approved on the shooting day.
Shooting day, locationchoice
When and where it is shot; both can be set later too.

If the scene is connected with a scene heading in the screenplay, the screenplay controls name and number (see Writing the screenplay).

The scene in detail

1 The Synopsis with the scene's requirements. 2 Cast in this scene with call time. 3 Looks and props. 4 The scene's shots and storyboard frames.

The screenplay excerpt shows the scene's text; In the screenplay jumps there. Assign roles sets the scene's cast. With the arrows at the top you go to the previous or the next scene. The revision colour shows in which revision the scene was last changed.

What a change entails

If you change a scene's shooting day, location, cast or text, the scene shows what hangs off it: shots, storyboard frames, breakdown elements, tasks, roles, looks, locations, props & vehicles, equipment and shooting days — Directly affected, Needs checking or in the Scheduling.

What happens when …

When …then …
you give a scene a shooting dayit stands on that day in the stripboard, and the call sheet and DOOD follow.
you set a scene to Omittedit stays in the project but is no longer scheduled.
the scene is controlled by the screenplaythe screenplay changes name and number; in the form they are locked.
you delete a scenethe app asks first; deleting is final.
you are offlineyou still create and change scenes; they go out as soon as you are back online.
