Stripboard
The classic film stripboard — spread scenes as strips across the shooting days, reorder, split, plan moves and breaks, have a shooting order proposed and get the schedule as a PDF.
On the stripboard every scene is a coloured strip and every shooting day a column. That is how you spread the scenes across the days and see at once how full a day is. You see the tab with the read rights for shooting days and scenes.
The board
1 The key figures: Scenes scheduled, Pages scheduled and Unscheduled. 2 The colour legend. 3 One column per shooting day with day, date, number of scenes and cast. 4 The scene strips.
A strip shows scene number, title, I/E (interior or exterior), D/N (day or night), pages and the scene's roles. The colour tells you at a glance what kind of set-up it is: INT · Day, EXT · Day, INT · Night, EXT · Night or Magic hour. Scenes without a shooting day lie in the Unscheduled column.
Spreading and reordering scenes
Drag a strip onto another day or to another place. It works the same without a mouse: Alt + ↑/↓ moves the selected scene, and tapping the scene number opens a menu with moving and splitting. Every change is saved at once and appears for everyone who has the board open. Drag a scene back to Unscheduled and it is taken off the schedule.
Splitting a scene
You shoot long scenes on two days: Split creates a second part, for example 8A.
The new part inherits location, cast and props and starts unscheduled. Under The new part is you choose, for example, that it plays at night instead of by day. Splitting also works by right-clicking a strip.
Move, break or rebuild
Move or break adds time to a shooting day in which nothing is shot: a Company move to the next location, a Meal break or a Rebuild. You enter a name and the Duration (min) and choose the Place in the day — before a particular scene or At the end of the day. This time counts into the day's load, so a day with two moves is not planned as full as one without.
Plan the order
Plan the order has the AI propose a shooting order — per day the scenes and why each one sits there. If the account's package lacks the AI features, the button carries a lock and leads to Subscription & packages.
The proposal stands beside the board; nothing has changed yet. Apply spreads the scenes across the upcoming shooting days, Discard leaves everything as it was. If there is no upcoming shooting day for a proposed day, its scenes stay where they are; what the AI could not plan is listed separately below.
The schedule as a PDF
Schedule PDF downloads the shooting schedule as a document: all shooting days with their scenes, in the board's order, on your account's letterhead.
What happens when …
| When … | then … |
|---|---|
| you drag a scene onto another day | it is scheduled there; the day's call sheet and the DOOD follow. |
| you drag a scene to Unscheduled | it is taken off the schedule but stays in the project. |
| you split a scene | a second part with location, cast and props is created, unscheduled. |
| two people reorder at the same time | each sees the other's change at once. |
| there are no scenes or shooting days yet | the board tells you where to create them: scenes in the screenplay, days under Shooting days. |
