Unexpected code

You received a code from ModiFax without asking for one? What it means and what to do now.

You received an e-mail from ModiFax with a code although you did not ask for anything? Do not pass the code on and do not enter it anywhere. As long as nobody but you knows the code, nothing happens: it expires by itself after a few minutes.

Which e-mail did you get?

The subject tells you what was just attempted and how serious it is.

SubjectWhat is behind itWhat you do
Confirm your e-mail addressSomeone entered your address while registering — usually a typo.Nothing. Without the code no account is created.
Reset your passwordSomeone chose "Forgot password" for your address.Nothing. Your password stays as it is.
Your sign-in codeSomeone is signing in with your address and your correct password.Act now — see below.
Confirm the change in your accountSomething security-relevant is to be changed in an open session of your account.Act now — see below.

This is what the e-mail Your sign-in code looks like. If you did not sign in yourself, someone knows your password.

When someone has your password or your session

The last two e-mails only arrive when someone has got further than the sign-in page. Without the code they are stuck — use that time:

Change your password

Sign in yourself and set a new password under Profile → Security, in the card Change password — one you use nowhere else. The details are under Signing in.

Sign out unknown devices

Tap your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Devices. You see every device connected to your account. Sign out every one you do not know — it loses access at once. More under Devices.

Set up a passkey

With a passkey you sign in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN. There is no password left that anyone could guess or steal. You set it up under Profile → Security as well.

You can no longer get into your account?

If your password has already been changed or you see changes you did not make, write to us straight away at support@modifax.com. Tell us your e-mail address and when the unexpected e-mail arrived — do not send us the code itself.
